Meet Cameron Dowling…

So Camo, what ever got you into Snowboarding?

I went on a family trip to Adelaide in 2001 and came across an indoor snow run called Mt Theberton, which no longer exists. It was one slope around 60 metres long but that was all I needed and from then on I was hooked.

Yeah rad, so where’d you go from there?

Well from there I finished school…. just, then headed up to Buller for a TAFE course in 05 which meant I was there all year round an doing seasons became a lot easier

So this was your first real taste of snowboarding I’m guessing, moving up from the great Mt Theberton. How’d you find yourself to be such a park junkie?

I guess skating when I was younger had a lot to do with me riding so much park but the main reason would have to be Australian weather conditions (Mt Buller especially). Even on the days that were windy, overcast or raining, my mates and I would still be out there hiking a down bar for hours.

So you’ve been doing seasons for a while, how do you keep yourself living this lifestyle?

When I’m not at the snow I’m in Melbourne working and saving as much as I can, then up at Buller I’d work in various kitchens dishying which gives me plenty of ride time

Now for some rapid fire questions

Mt.Buller park is better than ever and all the locals are frothing. The best jibbing mountain hands down, sorry Baw Baw!!  The Park Crew have been tirelessly salting take offs so you can hit the jibs all day long. This is the time of year to throw down and learn new tricks with heaps of slushy snow to land on as the landings are very forgiving. The Park Crew are continually putting new features out and mixing it up! You’d be crazy not to get a few days in with prices so cheap during Spring.  On mountain accommodation is super cheap and there are no lift queues.

Mt Buller Store Wars – Sponsored by FYVE Snowboards

Whiteroom in Geelong took out the prize as winning team – well done guys!! Loretta from RPS Boardstore in Elwood won best performing female, and Tom from Bumps won fastest snowboarder in GS. Everyone was stoked with the prizes (as you can see from the pic!) and the only sad faces were those that missed out on all our FYVE products. The beanies and decks were blowing minds. Better luck next year kids!
